WEST HAVEN, CONN., May 30, 2019 – More than 600 people filled Savin Rock Park in West Haven on Saturday, May 18, to take part in the Connecticut Food Bank Walk Against Hunger. The event, presented by Subway® World Headquarters and the Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation, raised nearly $100,000 to support the Connecticut Food Bank.
“We are grateful for our sponsors and all who donated and walked,” said Connecticut Food Bank CEO Bernie Beaudreau. “The funds and awareness generated are significant momentum in the fight against hunger.”
In addition to its event sponsorship, Subway provided lunch for all Walk participants. Subway employees fielded a Walk team of nearly 100 employees and their families, and were recognized as the top fundraising team, raising more than $6,200 by Walk day. Media sponsor, KC101FM, provided music and special concert ticket giveaways. Starbucks provided coffee and tea. More than 50 volunteers helped the Connecticut Food Bank set up and staff the event. Activities for children and families, included face painting, games, and snacks.

Walk Against Hunger raises funds to support the work of the Connecticut Food Bank, which last year distributed enough food to provide 20.3 million meals. The food bank distributes food through a network of nearly 700 partners and programs in six Connecticut counties: Fairfield, Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven, New London, and Windham. More than 144,000 people last year sought food from a Connecticut Food Bank partner agency or program.
“The Walk also engages civic groups, faith groups, businesses, individuals, and families in a common cause and demonstrates that we are caring community,” Beaudreau said.
