This year, we worked hard to distribute 19,431 turkeys (1.7% more than 2016) and 429,991 pounds of fresh produce, as well as nonperishable “fixings” to provide more than half a million meals this Thanksgiving.
This generous bounty was made possible by the thousands of dollars and pounds of food received from independent food drives and fundraisers, as well as from some of the traditional drives we participate in with KC 101, WTNH News 8, WPLR 99.1 New Haven, STAR 99.9 FM and Yale Athletics. For example, we received 3,255 turkeys through food drives. This year’s largest single corporate donor of turkeys was ShopRite. We appreciate Bank of America, Subway, Stop & Shop, KeyBank, Big Y World Class Market, Dunkin’ Donuts and so many businesses large and small that stepped forward with financial donations, food donations and volunteers help to make this a Thanksgiving For All. Thank you also to volunteers from the United States Coast Guard Long Island Sector and from the Waterbury Fire Fighters Association, who helped us during the busy days of pre-Thanksgiving order filling.
That was no small task, and we could not have done it without each and every one of you, our member programs. Thank you for helping make this year’s Thanksgiving distribution a success!
Do you have a Thanksgiving success story and/or photo? We would love to hear from you! Send your stories and photos to Alanna to be featured in our next newsletter.
