Connecticut Food Bank Accepts Truckload Food Donation

WALLINGFORD, CONN., May 3, 2016 – A tractor trailer from Ocean State Job Lot delivered more than 37,000 pounds of food to the Connecticut Food Bank as part of its Three Square OSJLMeals Family Meal Assistance Program. The nonperishable foods included cereals, canned soups and canned vegetables.

The truck was part of a caravan of tractor trailers loaded with approximately 700,000 pounds of nutritious, shelf-stable food donated by Ocean State Job Lot (OSJL) to 15 food banks in New York, New Jersey and New England. Funds for Job Lot to purchase the food direct from brand-name manufacturers were donated at the register by OSJL customers in seven states over the 2015 holiday season and matched by Job Lot.

Arbella presented a $1,000 donation to the Connecticut Food Bank in addition to the delivered food.

Connecticut Food Bank Interim CEO Paul O’Leary said the food would be quickly put to use in communities served by the Connecticut Food Bank. “This food will help to make thousands of meals for hungry families in Connecticut.”
