WALLINGFORD, CONN., November 4, 2015 – Food drives and special programs throughout November will help the Connecticut Food Bank provide the makings of Thanksgiving meals to people in need.
Several media outlets and businesses have planned food and fund drives to help the Connecticut Food Bank and its partners collect needed food and funds during a season when people think about the sharing their good fortune with others.
Connecticut’s nonprofit leader in the fight against hunger, the Connecticut Food Bank provides food sourced from community donations, growers and retailers to provide some 700 partners and programs with food to help alleviate hunger for more than 300,000 people in six Connecticut counties.
“At a time when we all hope to give thanks for good fortune, many struggle to provide for basic needs like food,” said Connecticut Food Bank Director of Community Engagement Sarah Morocco. “We appreciate all the drives that individuals and families, as well as community- and faith-based groups hold this month and throughout the year to help feed our neighbors who struggle with hunger.”
Morocco said the Connecticut Food Bank welcomes partners to help in the fight against hunger. The Food Bank develops corporate partnerships that raise food, funds and awareness about the issue of hunger. She cited the Food Bank’s Virtual Food Drive as a tool that helps both businesses and individuals raise funds in an “easy to use and very engaging format.”
“There are so many ways to help, as volunteers, advocates, financial donors and food donors. We hope the holidays inspire people to get involved with us and that they will stay engaged in the fight against hunger throughout the year.”
Morocco noted several food and fund drives across the region that are sponsored by a number of area media outlets and businesses:
