Registration Under Way for Connecticut Food Bank Walk Against Hunger

Walk Against Hunger is Set for Sunday, April 23, in New Haven

NEW HAVEN, CONN., April 4, 2017 – Online registration is now open for the Connecticut Food Bank 2017 Walk Against Hunger, set for Sunday, April 23, at 1:00 PM, at Lighthouse Point Park in New Haven. Online registration for the Walk is at www.ctfoodbank.org/walk.

Walk Against Hunger is a community gathering to increase awareness of the problem of hunger in our communities and to raise funds to support the hunger fighting work of the Connecticut Food Bank.

The Walk kicks off Sunday, April 23, at 1:00 PM, at Lighthouse Point Park in New Haven. It will follow a 2.5-mile route.

Now in its 40th year, Walk Against Hunger has attracted thousands of walkers and has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to support hunger relief. Participants in the Walk raise funds by securing donations for their Walk team from their community and social networks prior to the event. “The event is a great opportunity to gather friends, family, coworkers, classmates, your church, synagogue or civic group and walk together to fight hunger,” said Connecticut Food Bank CEO Bernie Beaudreau. “It’s truly a community event that represents the spirit of everyone coming together to help feed neighbors in need.”

Proceeds from the Walk Against Hunger power the hunger fighting mission of the Connecticut Food Bank, Beaudreau said. “We partner with a network of more than 650 community based food assistance programs to help feed people who struggle with hunger. That means the food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and other hunger relief organizations that receive food from the Connecticut Food Bank will have more resources to support their efforts.”

Individuals and Walk teams can pre-register online at www.ctfoodbank.org/walk. Registration is free. Once registered, walkers and teams will have access to an online participant center with tools to help reach fundraising goals. In addition to fundraising ideas, walkers are provided with sample emails and social media posts to assist their fundraising. Through this campaign, teams can reach out to their social networks and gain support as well as share why they are walking with the Connecticut Food Bank by tagging their posts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with the hashtag #WalkAgainstHunger.
