Rick Donegan

Connecticut Food Bank Development Coordinator Stephanie Decker recently sat down with volunteer Rick Donegan, of Wallingford, who volunteers with our development team. Here’s a quick profile of Rick’s involvement.

What brought you to the Connecticut Food Bank as a volunteer?

  • As a former Stop & Shop store manager for various stores in the New England Division, Rick was very involved with his stores’ communities.  Hunger relief was often a cause they supported.
  • Rick is currently on disability, but wanted to stay active and not sit around all day. A Wallingford resident, Rick decided to volunteer for the Connecticut Food Bank when we moved here in November.

What do you like best about volunteering here?

  • “Helping those in need,” Rick said. He also enjoys the work he does for the development department. By assisting with data entry and database management, Rick helps the team become more efficient and productive, freeing up time to work directly with donors and be more active in outward facing projects.

What we didn’t know about Rick.

  • Last year, Rick received the Stop & Shop Community Service Award (New England Division).Rick Donegan pullout quote
  • When Rick was working in the Rockville Stop & Shop, he developed a drop-off bin program in the store where people could drop off groceries to support local food pantries.  The program expanded to 150 Stop & Shop stores!
  • Rick was also involved with Stop & Shop becoming a sponsor of the New Britain Rock Cats; they will continue as a sponsor for the relocated team, now known as the Hartford Yard Goats.
  • Rick has been in the grocery industry for 40 years.

Rick’s advice to anyone with time to offer.

  • “If you aren’t volunteering here yet, get down here!”
