Recognizing Volunteer Support

17/Oct/16 / 16:31

Last year, volunteers gave 28,170 hours of service to the Connecticut Food Bank which according to Independent Sector, a leadership network for nonprofits, is equivalent to $782,000 in hours worked. Yet, the daily value of each of our volunteers is priceless! Volunteers are advocates and advisers, helping us to fulfill our mission and spread the word about our work with neighbors, colleagues, friends and family.20160921_195329986_ios

On September 29, we said thank you to more than 150 volunteers who power the Connecticut Food Bank mission with a dinner reception at our Wallingford distribution center. We had gifts, drawings for prizes, a delicious barbecue dinner and an opportunity for the staff to personally thank volunteers for all they do in support of the Connecticut Food Bank.

Business groups, community groups, faith organizations and individual volunteers were represented among the crowd. “We are so grateful to everyone who gives their time and skill to help” at the Connecticut Food Bank, said Volunteer Coordinator Kim Damien. “We truly can’t do our work without their help.”
As food sorters, volunteers help us to process and prepare the millions of pounds of food we receive each year from our food donors. This food is delivered to member programs that see an average of 150,000 visits from families in need each month.

On our Mobile Pantries, volunteers help us to set up and distribute food from Connecticut Food Bank vehicles directly to the community in locations
where transportation issues and other factors can limit the access to nutritious food.

When help is needed in our offices, volunteers are there, maintaining databases, processing mail, helping with filing, providing research and reporting assistance and more.10402570_10153849405252929_6215828191931465612_n
