NORWALK, CONN., May 31, 2016 – The Connecticut Food Bank is hosting the Miles For Meals 5K this Sunday, June 5, at Calf Pasture Beach Park in Norwalk. More than 300 runners and walkers are expected to participate in the inaugural event. Miles For Meals is presented by Citizens Bank and benefits the Connecticut Food Bank mission to fight hunger.

“We are excited about the strong turnout for this first-ever 5K race for the Connecticut Food Bank,” said Connecticut Food Bank Director of Community Engagement Sarah Morocco. “The funds raised by the race will support our work distributing food to help the more than 300,000 people in our area who struggle with hunger during the year.”

Morocco said the Connecticut Food Bank works with a network of local food pantries, soup kitchens and other programs to provide nutritious food to people in need. Last year, the Connecticut Food Bank distributed enough food to provide more than 18.5 million meals.

“We are grateful to Citizens Bank and the other sponsors that are making the race possible,” Morocco said. We value their commitment to helping us raise funds to fight hunger and raise awareness of the problem of hunger in our state.”
