DONATE FOOD
- Donate food at a food drive or local food program.
- Plan a food drive any time of year to benefit a local program. Click here for ideas.
- Shop during 2 for 1 sales and donate the second can/box of food to your local food pantry.
- Plant an extra row of produce in your garden and donate that bounty to a food bank.
- Donate unused prepared food from weddings & parties to a local soup kitchen or shelter (call ahead of time!). Click here for information on CFB’s Food Rescue Operation.
RAISE FUNDS
- Donate money (cash, check or charge). Click here to find out how to donate on-line to Connecticut Food Bank.
- Contribute money in memory or honor of friends & loved ones.
- Collect donations of funds or food for a charity instead of gifts for birthdays, weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs, etc.
- Ask your company to match your donation to a food bank or charity.
- Transfer stocks or securities to a charity & gain a tax break.
- Plan a fundraiser for a local program – funds are essential to keep programs running.
- Include CFB or other food charity in your estate planning.
VOLUNTEER
- Volunteer for Connecticut Food Bank.
- Volunteer your time and energy at a local soup kitchen, shelter or food bank. Click here for links to some of CFB's member food programs.
- Volunteer at special events such as CFB’s Walk Against Hunger or food drives. Click here for information on upcoming special events.
LEARN MORE & ADVOCATE FOR HUNGER-RELIEF
- Take a tour of CFB with your coworkers, class or civic group. Click here for information.
- Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper about hunger in your community.
- Wear orange – the color of hunger awareness – on National Hunger Awareness Day, June 5, 2007. Visit www.hungerday.org for details.
- Speak to your congregation, classroom or organization about the fight against hunger.
- Host friends or neighbors who are down on their luck to a meal.
- Urge local political leaders to be more involved in fighting hunger in your community. Visit End Hunger Connecticut! for hunger-related state and federal legislative matters and ways to take action on them.
- Shop at businesses that donate to hunger-relief efforts.
- Teach your children to be compassionate to those less fortunate. For ways children of all ages can help fight hunger, click here.
- Invite a speaker from CFB to address your class, school, congregation or company. Click here for information.
- Be mindful of waste at home, school and work—ask a charity before you throw items away.
