2008 Partnership Award: Xpect Discounts

Xpect DiscountsIn 1979, Marc Glassman opened a relatively large but unpretentious drugstore in Middleburg Heights, Ohio. It didn’t take long for cost-conscious consumers to turn a modest beginning into a major enterprise. This drugstore became Marc’s, a large chain of discount stores owned and operated in Northeast Ohio. Xpect Discounts is a division of Marc’s stores with six locations in Connecticut: Cromwell, Danbury, Derby, East Haven, Milford and North Haven. These stores target the value-conscious family shopper. Their basic inventory represents name brand merchandise in the food, health and beauty, and general merchandise categories. Each store has a courtesy section which provides many extra services such as postage stamps, money orders and pre-paid phone cards to make sure the customer has a pleasant experience.

Xpect and Connecticut Food Bank have a longstanding partnership. Xpect’s North Haven warehouse managers have been working closely with Connecticut Food Bank’s product donation coordinators since 1994. In the past five years, Xpect has donated more than 397,000 pounds of nonperishable and produce items and more than 3 million pounds cumulatively. This exceptional donation has provided more than 2.3 million meals to men, women and children across Connecticut. Xpect’s commitment to serving the community is exemplary.

Connecticut Food Bank was proud to present to Xpect Discounts a Partnership Award for its commitment to donating high quality food items for nearly 15 years and for its dedication to our mission to help our neighbors in need.
