Connecticut Food Bank to Host Open House on November 10 in Bridgeport
Free Event for Public to See New Fairfield County Warehouse Location

BRIDGEPORT, CONN., November 7, 2018 – The Connecticut Food Bank will host an open house on Saturday, November 10, from 11:00AM to 2:00PM, at its recently opened warehouse facility in Bridgeport, at 229 Mountain Grove Street. The event is free and open to the public, but registration is requested. Register at www.ctfoodbank.org/OpenHouse.

The Connecticut Food Bank relocated its Fairfield County warehouse to Bridgeport in late spring to be closer to the large number of member agencies serving the Greater Bridgeport area. “We are able to provide easier access for programs that partner with us to provide food to people in need,” said Connecticut Food Bank CEO Bernie Beaudreau. “This location puts us in reach of more programs and offers many improvements in our operations.”

While similar in square footage to its former location, the Bridgeport warehouse is on a single level. The food bank’s former Fairfield warehouse was on two levels, making loading, storing, moving food products much less efficient, Beaudreau said. The Bridgeport facility is approximately 12,000 square feet and includes 1,200 square feet of refrigerated and frozen food storage, allowing the food bank to provide more sought-after fresh foods to local programs. Beaudreau also noted that the new facility includes meeting space and increased space for volunteer projects. “We are able to better engage with our member agencies and the public,” Beaudreau said. “And the building is fully accessible to people of all abilities.

Beaudreau said the open house provided an opportunity for people to learn more about the work of the food bank and ways to get involved. “We provide food to more than 56,000 people each month through our network of local programs in Fairfield County,” Beaudreau said. “See who we are, see how we work, and see how you can help.”
