Register for the 2014 Walk Against Hunger

Online registration is now open for Connecticut Food Bank’s 2014 Walk Against Hunger, at www.ctfoodbank.org/walk. Our 2013 Hunger Action Heroes

On Sunday, September 22, Connecticut Food Bank  honored its Hunger Action Heroes at an awards ceremony attended by more than 125 at our East Haven warehouse. The heroes are individuals, businesses and organizations that go above and beyond to support Connecticut Food Bank in its mission to provide nutritious food to people in need. The ceremony is held annually in September, designated as Hunger Action Month. The City of Waterbury was presented with The Bill Liddell Award – the highest tribute paid by Connecticut Food Bank to an individual, organization or corporation – in recognition of exemplary service, ongoing dedication and significant support of the Food Bank and its mission. The award was named after Bill Liddell who supported the Food Bank by donating a total of 104 tons of fresh produce, as well as time and funds. Registration Under Way for Walk Against Hunger

Online registration is now open for Connecticut Food Bank’s 2013 Walk Against Hunger, at www.ctfoodbank.org/walk.  The family-fun event takes place each spring in Bridgeport, New Haven and Waterbury, and new this year is an additional location at Chelsea Parade in Norwich to benefit the Gemma E. Hunger Action Heroes Honored

Connecticut Food Bank recently honored Hunger Action Heroes at an awards ceremony attended by nearly 200 at its East Haven warehouse, which also recognized Connecticut Food Bank’s 30th Anniversary serving the community.  The heroes are individuals, businesses and organizations that go above and beyond to support Connecticut Food Bank in its mission to alleviate hunger in Connecticut.  The ceremony is held annually in September, designated as Hunger Action Month. Connecticut Food Bank’s Founder, Mark Patton, Executive Director at Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity, was presented with the 30th Anniversary Hunger Action Hero Award by Nancy L. Carrington, Connecticut Food Bank’s President & CEO. 2012 Walks Against Hunger raise more than $250,000

Connecticut Food Bank’s 2012 Walks Against Hunger in Bridgeport, New Haven and Waterbury have raised more than $250,000 for hunger-relief efforts in Connecticut.  Nearly 2,000 walkers participated in the three Walks in late April and May.  Funds raised will enable Connecticut Food Bank to transport, warehouse and distribute more than $1.2 million of food at wholesale value for local community agencies such as soup kitchens, shelters, food pantries and adult and child day programs. “We are grateful to the Walkers, donors and sponsors for helping to make 2012 our most successful Walk season to date,” said Connecticut Food Bank President & CEO Nancy L. There’s still time to register for Connecticut Food Bank’s Walk Against Hunger

Connecticut Food Bank’s Greater Bridgeport Walk Against Hunger is this Sunday, April 29, at Seaside Park in Bridgeport.  Registration is at 1 p.m. for the  family-fun event, with the 2.5 to 3 mile walk beginning at 2 p.m.  You can still register online as a individual, team or “virtual walker” at www.ctfoodbank.org/walk.  Presented by Webster Bank, the Walk helps Connecticut Food Bank in its mission to alleviate hunger in Connecticut. If you can’t make it this weekend, there are two more Walks in May on the following dates and locations:  36th Annual Greater New Haven Walk Against Hunger Sunday, May 6, 2012 College Woods Pavilion at East Rock Park, New Haven 7th Annual Greater Waterbury Walk Against Hunger Sunday, May 20, 2012 Library Park, Waterbury Walk participants are supported by family members, friends, colleagues and others prior to the event.
