WALLINGFORD, CONN., July 18, 2017 – Connecticut Food Bank will welcome leadership from Wakefern Food Corp. and the family-owned ShopRite stores in its six-county service area to celebrate a 20-year partnership with the stores that has resulted in enough food and fund donations to provide food for nearly 10 million meals to hungry Connecticut residents.
“We saw July 20 as the perfect day to honor a corporate sponsor that has entered its twentieth year helping to fight hunger in Connecticut,” said Connecticut Food Bank CEO Bernie Beaudreau. He said the food bank would honor the stores with a celebration lunch at noon at the Connecticut Food Bank Wallingford headquarters and distribution center. “This is an opportunity for us to say thank you and for our friends from Wakefern and ShopRite to see where their donations go and how they move from here to help meet needs across the region.”
Beaudreau said the combined store and corporate donations to the Connecticut Food Bank since 1998 amounted to more than 1.22 million pounds of food and $4.3 million in funds. “These donations have made a life changing difference for untold numbers of people in Connecticut,” he said.
Representatives expected at the event include corporate representatives and local store owners and managers. The lunch will include a formal recognition and an opportunity for the guests to tour the food bank. “We want our partners to know how much we appreciate their generosity and to see the care and efficiency with which we use their donations,” Beaudreau said.
